Daily Digs: Sacred Heart U.’s Arena Transformation, Jones AT&T Stadium Upgrades, Possible Cleveland Pro Women’s Soccer Stadium

In Fairfield, Conn., Sacred Heart University's William Pitt Athletic & Convocation Center will undergo transformative renovations.

In the upgraded layout, the 2,000-seat multipurpose arena court will rotate 90 degrees from its current position and be surrounded by permanent bleacher-style and backed arena-style seating, bringing fans closer to the action.

The redesign will also maximize the current footprint of the building and allow for ample practice options creating a top-tier experience for SHU’s talented student-athletes.

The PItt Center has served as the heart of the university's Division I athletics and is the competition home to multiple sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and wrestling.

• The firm in charge of designing a new ballpark for the Chicago White Sox in the city's South Loop area has released renderings of the proposed project. Several renderings of the ballpark feature picturesque views of the Riverwalk and Chicago River, near where the ballpark would be situated, as well as a downtown view.
  
     
  
  
• Texas Tech University in Lubbock is upgrading Jones AT&T Stadium with a state-of-the-art sound system and an expanded north end zone videoboard. Texas Tech is in the midst of its largest athletic facility investment in its history with the $242 million south end zone and Womble Football Center. Courtesy of Texas Tech AthleticsDaktronics will expand Texas Tech's videoboard screen on the north side of the stadium to 37.2 feet high by 139.4 feet wide, utilizing the same structure that was built in 2013. The south end zone video displays, located in opposite corners of the new structure, will measure 27 feet high by 48 feet wide. These features allow for multiple zones of content, showcasing instant replays, graphics, animations, statistics and sponsorship messages. Daktronics will also replace each of its three current ribbon boards. The new sound system will be installed by Clair Audio. Construction of the new video displays and ribbon boards is expected to be completed by late spring.
  
  
• Plans are underway to build a new soccer stadium near downtown Cleveland designed to help bring a professional women’s soccer team to the city. Should the National Women’s Soccer League award Cleveland an expansion team, the stadium could be completed as early as 2026.
