The San Antonio Spurs' proposed downtown arena would come with a $1.2 billion price tag, the Express-News reported Friday, citing anonymous people familiar with the matter.

That would make the new facility — most likely located in the footprint of the soon-to-be-demolished Institute of Texan Cultures — the second-most expensive arena in NBA history, just behind San Francisco's Chase Center and tied with Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum.

Spurs Sports & Entertainment is willing to cough up about $240 million for the arena, with the remaining costs left to the city and county, sources told the Express-News.

To help foot the bill, Spurs execs are eyeing revenue from a recently passed city-controlled downtown sales tax zone dedicated to convention centers and pro-sports facilities, the daily reports. However, that tax is only projected to yield around $200 million. What's more, the revenue is expected to go toward maintaining the Henry B. González Convention Center and possible Alamodome upgrades. [San Antonio Current]

With the help of financial support from alumni, fans and friends, Central College is in the process of implementing upgrades to the college’s A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex.

Workers recently finished installing the new FieldTurf artificial turf at Ron and Joyce Schipper, and new goalposts are also being installed to the football-only field. A new, expanded Daktronics video screen is also being installed at Schipper Stadium, replacing the original stadium videoboard. Installation of the new video screen will begin in July, with completion expected ahead of the football opener for the Dutch on September 7th against Illinois Wesleyan University. [KNIA-KRLS]

During a Plano City Council meeting on June 24, 2024, council members approved an expenditure for the Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center renovation project.

The Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center, located at 5801 W Parker Road, will undergo a $15.9 million renovation project funded by the 2021 bond to enhance various aspects of the building, including the pool area and exercise rooms, addressing critical infrastructure needs. This project also includes essential maintenance that, if postponed, could lead to more costly repairs in the future, according to the city.
