An architecture firm has been hired to design the professional soccer stadium planned for downtown Albany.
Business For Good and other investors announced Thursday that Populous is hired to design the Major League Soccer NEXT Pro Stadium project.
The global design firm will develop the master plan and stadium design for the major sports development coming to the Capital Region.
It’s expected to hold between 8,000 people for sports events, with a capacity to expand to 12,000 for other events. [WNYT]
The Carolina Hurricanes said the governing body for PNC Arena has approved a development agreement to create a long-discussed mixed-use district around the arena including entertainment, retail and office space, a music venue, apartments and a hotel.
In a statement Thursday, the Hurricanes also said the Centennial Authority officially approved and signed the lease extension for the Hurricanes to remain at PNC Arena at least through the 2043-44 season, which was first agreed to last summer.
That jumpstarts a $300 million project to upgrade the 25-year-old home to the Hurricanes and the NC State men's basketball team, set to begin in 2025. [ESPN]
George Municipality is spearheading the multi-million-rand upgrade of the Rosemoor Stadium, a key multi-code sports facility located in the heart of the community, and will turn it into a world-class venue.
The aim is to host various athletic events and to serve as a central hub for local sports clubs and schools.
Construction on the site commenced in May and the planned completion of specifically the tartan track is January 2025.
According to Granville Campher, manager of Sport Development at George Municipality, the decision to upgrade Rosemoor Stadium was driven by the need to provide a standard athletic facility for the community. [George Herald]
