The University of South Carolina’s plans to reimagine Williams-Brice Stadium have received approval from the State of South Carolina Legislature’s Joint Bond Review Committee and the State Fiscal Accountability Authority. The approval is a standard procedure for major projects from state entities. The University will return to the Committees in later 2025 seeking formal approval on the full scope and cost of the project.

The State of South Carolina Legislature’s Joint Bond Review Committee and State Fiscal Accountability Authority gave approval to the next step in the University of South Carolina’s plans to reimagine Williams-Brice Stadium, supporting the University moving forward with Phase I activities to include schematic design and cost estimating. A significant gift from an alumni couple will help fund construction of a planned new outdoor track and field facility at Ithaca College for use both by intercollegiate athletics teams and the wider campus and local communities.

The eight lane, 400-meter running track will be built on the west side of campus, on a field that has most recently been used for sports practices and recreation. There will be adjacent runways for jumping events, while the infield of the track will remain natural grass. A small nearby recreational field behind Emerson Hall will be repurposed for throwing events.

The total project cost is about $4 million, with most of the financing for it coming from the donors and the rest from institutional capital funds.[Ithaca]

Nationwide Arena could undergo a $400 million renovation.

“Could be a little more, could be a little less,” said David Redelberger, director of communications & interactive marketing for Columbus Arena Sports & Entertainment, which operates the downtown Columbus venue.

“That’s what the vision study that we’re doing right now is going to help us figure out,” said he and Mike Gatto.

Gatto, the chief operating officer for Columbus Arena Management, said it is their responsibility to make sure they are putting the city's best foot forward.

“My vision is to make Columbus a sports and entertainment capital of the Midwest,” he said. “Quite frankly, there wouldn’t be an arena district without the arena, right?”

Gatto said an architect could have a draft of their vision by the end of this month.  He compared the upgrades much like what a homeowner might do after 25 years in a house.  But when you’re talking 684,000 square feet of space, there’s so much more to do. [WBNS]
