It’s finally open. The University of Montana’s new indoor practice facility is up and running, and teams are ready for its many uses.

With a ceremonial ribbon cutting by members of the UM athletic department, the Griz faithful finally got their first look at the campus’ newest attraction.

While the centerpiece of this building is the football field, UM president Seth Bodnar said this structure will be used for much more than that.

“It's important for our community, you know, and during winter months when there aren't places for people to recreate, that aren't safe, good indoor spaces, some of our community partners are gonna get to use this, this facility," Bodnar said. "So, the impacts of this facility are gonna be felt by a lot of people.”

Some of the people who will feel this facility’s immediate impact will be UM’s track team, which will utilize all aspects of the indoor track and field during the winter months. [Montana Sports]

The Abbeville Christian Generals will soon have a new athletics facility.

The Abbeville Christian Academy Board of Trustees approved constructing a 5400-square-foot facility between the baseball and softball fields.

The new facility will include new batting cages, locker rooms for boys and girls, public restrooms, and a concession stand.

The project will be divided into 3 phases, each expected to take approximately one year to complete.

ACA officials say this timing allows funds to be raised so that separate projects around the campus are not affected or delayed.

“Please help us accelerate the timing of this project by supporting the Generals Army and their many fundraisers,” ACA officials said in a release. “We are excited about the future of ACA and ACA Athletics.” [WDHN]

The Paraclete community gathered on Wednesday to dedicate the school’s sports complex as the John F. Shea Athletics Complex at Calandri Stadium.

The Shea Family Foundation was the lead donor for the Spirits’ athletic complex. John F. Shea, who passed away at age 96 in October 2022, was the Chairman of J.F. Shea Co., Inc., which is one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. It is also one of the largest and most respected civil contractors in America.

Shea also became a well-known philanthropist as he began supporting inner-city Catholic Schools in the 1980s. Over the past 35 years, Shea and his wife Dorothy provided scholarships for disadvantaged students and funded more than 1,000 school renovations. [Antelope Valley Press]
