Sacramento State University has been on a roll making huge athletic announcements as the campaign for the PAC-12 conference continues. This week is no different.

The NCAA announced Sacramento again will be hosting rounds of the Division I Basketball championship with Sacramento State as the host school. New renderings were also released for Hornet Stadium.

The new multi-use stadium will be designed by Populous, the same group responsible for Oracle Park and the Safe Credit Union Convention Center.

Athletic Director Mark Orr is excited to share the new design.

“Shortly after the season, we will determine a timeline (and) construction schedule. We have track-and-field meets in the spring, so we will be working with Populous over the next few weeks to see when exactly we can bulldoze it," he said. [ABC 10]

Cal Poly Athletics unveiled its brand new Swanson Nutrition Athletic Center, a donor-funded facility designed to meet all the nutrition needs of all Cal Poly student-athletes.

The facility, graciously funded by Bill and Cheryl Swanson, will provide healthy, on the go snacks & sandwiches, post workout customized recovery smoothies and electrolyte based beverages to ensure that Mustang athletes are being properly fueled to maximize their athletic output.

“We believe Cal Poly provides one in the best educations in the country as an alum and someone who hired hundreds of Cal Poly graduates,” Bill Swanson said. “We are providing the best infrastructure for our sports and now with nutrition we can help provide the ability for a healthy way to compete at the highest levels.”

Mr. and Mrs. Swanson were motivated to make SNAC a reality after hearing from student-athletes that they needed a place on campus where they could quickly get healthy food and smoothies specifically geared towards recovery and performance. They were even more convinced after hearing from Dr. Scott Reaves, a former Cal Poly student-athlete, professor in the Food Science and Nutrition Department, and Director of Sports Nutrition about how this could help Cal Poly athletes. Florence County council members voted Thursday morning 5-4 to approve a $50 million project in partnership with Florence 1 Schools to help build a new school and a public athletic complex.

Florence County Council chairman William Schofield has said the construction of the new Savannah Grove Elementary School and the Savannah Grove Athletic Complex, “demonstrates how two local governments can collaborate for the betterment of our community—without raising taxes for a new school.”

He added that the partnership speeds up the timetable for the school to be built and operated to serve our children.

“I think this says for Florence County, not only for Florence 1. But for all municipalities, and all the other school districts. That Florence County is here to work together. And move this county forward together," said Schofield. [ABC 15]
