Fundraising Friday: De Moines Pro Soccer Stadium Receives $5M Boost

The Iowa Soccer Development Foundation says it received a $5 million Destination Iowa grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority to help fund a downtown professional soccer stadium in Des Moines. As reported Sunday by local CBS affiliate KCCI, the ISDF says it has secured $75 million of the $95 million needed from a variety of city, county, state, public and private partners.

University of Maryland graduates Margie and Bob Bedingfield have directed $1.625 million to provide merit-based funding for undergraduate student-athletes in perpetuity. According to Wednesday's announcement, one endowed scholarship in their name will go to the men’s basketball program and the other will support all programs, with preference given to the men’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf programs.

Wake Forest University alum and longtime supporter of Demon Deacons athletics Bob McCreary honored the legacy of his late wife, Michele Acosta McCreary, by announcing a $1 million gift to support scholarships for Wake Forest baseball players, the university announced Monday. This gift will provide two scholarships per year to players for the next five years, with the goal to make it possible for student-athletes to pursue their dreams of playing baseball at Wake Forest.
