Fundraising Friday: Maryland Men's Basketball Lands $10M Donation

The University of Maryland athletic department and Terrapin Club have received a $10 million philanthropic commitment in support of Maryland men's basketball, athletic director Damon Evans announced Tuesday. The anonymous commitment will help support the priorities of the men's basketball program and its greatest needs through a newly established program-support endowment. The proceeds from the endowment will fund men's basketball operational needs in perpetuity.

Bo and Nikki McKinnis, longtime supporters of Mississippi State University from Nashville, Tenn., have invested $2 million to help strengthen the athletic department's competitive resources, MSU director of athletics Zac Selmon announced Jan. 24.This gift to the State Excellence Fund will further drive the momentum of Mississippi State Athletics and support the dedicated efforts to elevate the department and its athletic programs to new heights.

The University of Massachusetts athletic department has announced a $1 million matching gift from alum Doug Berthiaume and his wife Diana to support the UMass Hockey Excellence Endowment. According to a department announcement Thursday, the Berthiaumes will match dollar-for-dollar commitments of $25,000 or more, directly benefiting the program by providing long-term support for UMass Hockey and ensuring student-athletes receive an exceptional experience while representing the university on and off the ice. The UMass Hockey Excellence Endowment was established to provide long-term financial stability and resources for the program by assisting with scholarships, coaching resources, equipment, training facility enhancements and overall program development.

Boise State Athletics has received a $1 million donation, director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Tuesday. An anonymous donor has designated the gift to the Athletic Director Excellence Fund and North End Zone Project. The donation is the eighth $1 million gift that Bronco Athletics has received since the public launch of "Unbridled: The Campaign for Boise State University" and will directly support the holistic student-athlete experience.

The Boys & Girls Club gymnasium in Rochester, N.Y., will soon see a complete renovation thanks to a $750,000 donation from Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart, who grew up in the community and credits his success to local programming. As reported by local NBC affiliate WHEC, the renovated gym will be called The Isaiah Stewart Athletic Center and include new flooring, improved lighting and updated padding by mid-August.
