Soccer giant Manchester United plans to say goodbye to its storied Old Trafford stadium and build a new 100,000-seater stadium nearby as the team continues to struggle on the field.
The Red Devils announced early Tuesday that Old Trafford, United's home since 1910 which holds 74,000 people, would be abandoned as part of a wider plan to regenerate the area.
United said in a statement that the plan could create a possible 92,000 new jobs, more than 17,000 homes and attract 1.8 million visitors a year. [NBC News]

A proposed youth sports facility could bring more sport tournaments and economic growth to Kalamazoo County. But before any plans can move forward, a way to fund the project needs to be approved.
Jane Ghosh, president and CEO of Discover Kalamazoo, said a youth sports facility has been in the works since 2022. After planning for the Downtown Kalamazoo Event Center, which is under construction now, another feasibility study focused on youth sports in the area. That found an unmet local and regional need for hardwood courts to accommodate the growing popularity of sports like basketball and volleyball.[WOOD]
The Burgess-Rushing Tennis Center off of 66th and Indiana may have started small when it opened in 1976, but it now has 12 lit tennis courts, 16 recently remodeled lit pickleball courts, and a brand new pro-shop.
Tucker Richolson, the assistant athletic coordinator for Lubbock Parks and Recreation, hopes all of these renovations and new amenities will offer something for everyone to enjoy.
“Anything that we have, it’s really to be able to show to our community that we’re paying attention and have things that are coming and changing over here in our department to show the growth and to show the commitment back to our community,” Richolson said.
Richolson says you don’t have to travel outside of the city to learn about or play pickleball or tennis. [KCBD]
