Mar Vista High School Pool

Imperial Beach, California
Construction Cost: $4.275 million
Area / Square Feet: 214,000
Occupancy Date: Fall 2023

The Mar Vista High School Aquatic Center is aimed at modernizing and enhancing the existing facility built in the 1960s as two small lap and instructional pools. Now the largest high school pool in Southern California, the new facility was built with competitive swimming, diving and water polo in mind. It features a 60-meter outdoor pool with 21 lanes, three additional teaching lanes and bleachers capable of seating up to 400 spectators. Other improvements include a new pool deck, pool covers, mechanical reels, exterior rinse stations, lockers, outdoor showers, a state-of-the-art digital audio and visual display, and an AV scoreboard with timing display. There is also a 10,000-square-foot aquatics support building with restrooms and concessions to share with track and field events. The bigger aquatics space will allow for two water polo games to be run simultaneously. The facility can also host up to three swim teams at a time for practices. This facility will impact hundreds of student-athletes and indirectly impact every other athletic program as it provides a new training and spectating venue space.
