The John J. Kennedy Pool and its newly renovated pool building are designed to provide vital recreational opportunities for Pasadena’s northwest community, where access to low-cost fitness facilities is limited. The facility now accommodates year-round programming that includes swim lessons, water aerobics, parent-and-me classes, lifeguard training and recreational lap swimming. The facility responds to needs identified through extensive community input. With a focus on inclusivity, the project features ADA-compliant pathways, family-friendly restrooms and gender-neutral changing facilites, making the pool accessible to residents of all ages and abilities. The renovated pool building includes new first aid accommodations and staff locker rooms, as well as a dedicated community recreation room for youths to gather, study and socialize. The reconfigured pool itself boasts a zero-depth entry, a shallow area for recreational use with a 4-lane, 25-meter area that doubles as a half-court water polo space, and a deep end for lifeguard training. This project prioritizes safety, community identity and aesthetic enhancement, elevating the facility’s appearance and functionality to inspire pride. By offering diverse programs and a welcoming environment, the John J. Kennedy Pool encourages an active, healthy lifestyle for the community.
