The Holt Hickman Outdoor Pool at Southern Methodist University is a transformative addition to the university’s athletics facilities. The state-of-the-art pool spans 12,300 square feet and is designed for competitive swimming and diving. Including eight lap lanes and starting blocks, the pool’s meticulous design incorporates advanced technology, creating optimal conditions for both training and competition. Alongside the main pool, divers can practice on 1- and 3-meter boards. A dedicated 500-square-foot instructional pool caters to beginners and those in rehabilitation. The outdoor pool is poised to be a central hub for community engagement, attracting local and national swimming and water polo events. This addition completes the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center, making SMU one of the few universities nationwide with both indoor and outdoor Olympic-sized pools within a single complex. Despite facing site constraints, innovative design solutions ensured a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor facilities, enhancing the overall functionality of SMU’s aquatics programs.
