A teen basketball player in Georgia is facing battery charges after he lashed out and concussed an opposing player who he alleges had repeatedly called him the N-word.
Police are now investigating the incident, which took place during a game between Sonoraville High School and Rockmart High School in Calhoun on Jan. 3.
According to the New York Post, a Rockmart player pushed a Sonoraville player and then punched him in the face — before he landed a second punch on another player from the opposing team, as seen in a video that surfaced on social media.
According to the Gordon County Sheriff's Department's report, the 16-year-old Rockmart player alleges he was provoked, saying the Sonoraville player repeatedly called him the N-word.
The Rockmart player is facing two charges of simple battery, according to the police report.
The incident took place with less than four minutes to play in the third quarter. The Rockmart player shoved the Sonoraville athlete to the ground, who got up before being knocked down again by the punch.
