The athletic director of an Indiana high school is expressing his regrets after his school's girls' basketball team beat an opponent by a score of 115-5.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Cripus Attucks athletic director Chris Hawkins said he has already "handled the situation" internally with coach Kamaren Banks and his staff.

While Hawkins didn't offer specifics of those conversations or confirm if any disciplinary action was taken, he said that he "let it be known there's extreme disappointment in what happened" and that "the message has been sent."

According to the Star, Attucks (5-9) is rated 32nd in the 3A Sagarin Ratings and was averaging around 51 points per game entering Saturday. Their opponent, Washington (4-9), is rated last in 3A and 392nd overall. It has scored fewer than 20 points in eight games and fewer than 10 points in four, including a 64-9 loss to Purdue Poly Englewood in the City tournament Monday. Both are members of the Capital City Conference.

Hawkins has spoken to leadership at Washington and said they will be speaking with the Washington team, adding "We're going to handle it and do it the right way."

"(The) situation never should have been like that," he added. "It's not something we promote for our district nor here at Crispus Attucks. We take sportsmanship seriously. … You don't do that to a sister school. Hopefully, (our coaches) learn from it and then we move forward."

Hawkins is head coach of the Attucks boys basketball team and was informed of what transpired following their game at Gary 21st Century. He is unsure what, if any, steps were taken during the game beyond the standard running clock for the second half.

The IHSAA confirmed Monday it had reviewed film of the incident and communicated with both schools. Any discipline would come from the individual school and not the activities association.
