The Atlantic Sun Conference has suspended a referee who ejected Jacksonville University's men's basketball coach Jordan Mincy from Saturday's game against North Alabama.
According to The Florida Times-Union, the referee was suspended for the rest of the 2023-24 season and post-season.
The conference said in an emailed stated that the official was suspended “due to conduct not in alignment with the expectations of the ASUN” stemming from an interaction with Mincy over a foul call early in the game.
Athletic director Alex Ricker-Gilbert told the Times-Union that the official's behavior was "completely unacceptable."
The officiating crew was Joe Prince, Adam James and Raymond Lightfoot. The ASUN did not identify the official involved and Ricker-Gilbert also declined to name him.
The incident happened just three minutes into the game when Dolphins guard Robert McCray V made what appeared to be a clean steal and was called for a foul. Mincy asked the official for an explanation and was immediately hit with a technical foul and ejected. That was the first time Mincy had received a technical foul in his three season at JU.
"God is good! Never in my career have I experienced what happened today," Mincy posted. "Thankful for the university, our staff, and the young men I coach daily! Keep grinding and building!"
