University of Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava has signaled he will enter the transfer portal following a contract dispute that involved NIL deals.
Iamaleava’s NIL deal with Tennessee paid him around $2.2 million to $2.5 million, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Allegedly, Iamaleava’s reps wanted to renegotiate the deal to the “$4 million range,” leading to the standoff that saw the QB skip Friday’s practice.
Iamaleava had skipped Friday's Spring practice amid the negotiations.
ESPN's Chris Low reported "growing frustration among the (Tennessee) administration and players” over the situation when Iamaleava didn't show for the Spring practice.
Neither side reportedly budged in the negotiations, leading to an official parting of ways for Iamaleava and Tennessee.
According to Fox 8, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said that “no one is bigger than” the program on the subject of Iamaleava’s departure
