A school district in Texas is planning an extensive staff training program to keep kids safe after the athletic director and head coach at one of its schools was arrested for sexual assault of a child.

According to News Channel 10, officials at Perryton ISD say the program will include training for all of the district's teachers, as well as a more open line of communication with students.

The school district’s main priority is the safety and well-being of its students.

“This is a blow to our program. I mean, this is a setback and what we’re going to try to do is come out of that and come out of it strong. We’re hoping to hire the right person for our football program who will not just rebuild but actually rebuild better and take our kids to an even higher level,” said Greg Brown, superintendent of Perryton ISD.

Perryton ISD's now-former athletic director and head football coach Cole Underwood was arrested last week and charged with sexual assault of a child, after school administrators received a report Sunday the coach had an improper relationship with a student.

Perryton ISD is looking immediately for someone to take over the program and will have a rigorous screening process for all new hires.
