The University of Virginia and the Virginia Athletics Foundation announced June 6 that it had secured a $5 million commitment to Virginia Athletics from the family of "record-breaking running back, lacrosse player, longtime radio analyst, mentor, philanthropist and community pillar" Frank J. Quayle III. The gift will support Virginia Athletics by advancing academic excellence, championship programs and student-athlete development. In recognition, the lobby of the forthcoming Olympic Sports Complex will bear the name of Frank J. Quayle III.
Earlier this year, Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla, received $100,000 from USTA Florida to further construction of state-of-the-art tennis courts at the Historically Black College. According to the university's announcement, the donation is part of a larger initiative by USTA Florida in its support of HBCU tennis programs. The funding strives to assist Bethune-Cookman as it grows and expands its tennis program and recruits more Florida students to play at the university on its first-ever on-campus courts.
